What E5 (Class Series) Means
On the Class-series board E5 means Thermistor 1 is reading shorted. That is the primary sensor the control regulates from, so this is not a background entry in a log — the board is holding your cabinet to a number that is wrong, and it will hold it there steadily and confidently.
Common Causes of E5 (Class Series)
- Moisture bridging the sensor conductors, a real risk in a cabinet deliberately run at higher humidity than a refrigerator
- Harness insulation chafed through against a liner edge
- Sensor element broken down internally after long service
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Put a separate thermometer among the bottles, ideally at mid-height, and leave it for several hours. The gap between what it reads and what the display claims is the single most useful piece of information you can hand a technician on this code.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- On a wine cabinet a steadily wrong temperature is the damaging kind — it does not announce itself the way a warm bottle does, and a collection can sit several degrees off for weeks.
- A shorted primary sensor and a genuinely failing compressor present identically from the outside, and starting with the wrong one costs a full visit.
- Where moisture caused the short it has usually reached the neighbouring connectors, which is why U-Line tells servicers to change the harness alongside the sensor.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
