Undercounter refrigeration lives in a tighter, more enclosed space than a standalone kitchen fridge, which means a U-Line unit that stops cooling properly often has a different root cause than you’d expect from a full-size refrigerator.
Check Ventilation Clearance First
Built-in and undercounter U-Line refrigerators need clear airflow front-to-back — cabinetry installed without the manufacturer’s specified clearance is one of the most common causes of a unit that runs constantly but never quite reaches its set temperature, since the compressor can’t dump heat properly.
Sensor and Control Board Faults
If ventilation checks out and the unit is still running warm, a failed temperature sensor is the next most likely cause, followed by a control board fault. Both are diagnosable without opening the sealed refrigeration system.
When It’s the Sealed System
A genuine compressor or refrigerant fault is less common but does happen, and requires an EPA-certified technician — not something to attempt yourself even if you’re comfortable with basic appliance repair.
