What E7 Means

In the Class-series error log E7 is Thermistor 3 reading shorted, the opposite electrical failure to E3's open circuit on the same channel. On U-Line builds that fit an evaporator sensor there, a short is arguably the worse of the two: the board is not merely missing a reading, it is being handed a plausible-looking wrong one and timing defrost against it.

Common Causes of E7

  • Evaporator sensor shorted by melt water finding its way into the sensor body
  • Insulation degraded by repeated freeze and thaw across many defrost cycles
  • Connector flooded during an earlier drain blockage

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Look at the back wall of the cabinet interior. Frost that has gone from a light even film to a thick uneven crust, on a unit that used to stay clear, is the pattern that fits defrost being run off a bad evaporator reading.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • With the unit unplugged, evaporator work is manageable for a technician; energised, the defrost circuit and the fan can start without warning, which is why this is not an open-it-up-and-look job.
  • Heavy frost has to be cleared before the sensor can even be reached, and chipping at it is how evaporator tubing gets punctured.
  • A short caused by water rather than age means the drain path needs checking in the same visit, or the replacement sensor fails the same way.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E7 FAQ

Same sensor channel, opposite electrical failure. E3 tends to hand control to the backup defrost timer; E7 can leave the board acting on a false temperature, which is why frost problems show up sooner.

Because it does not exist on that generation. U-Line's 1000 Series error table runs E1 through E6 only; E7 belongs to the current Class-series error log.
