What SP Means
SP carries different meanings on different generations of U-Line control. On 2000 Series and Echelon-era units it announces set-point adjustment, with the stored value then flashing. On the 1000 Series control — the platform behind clear-ice and combination models such as the CLR1215 and CO1224F — U-Line's service manual states that problems are reported by the display alternating between SP and the error code itself.
Common Causes of SP
- Set-point adjustment entered while wiping down the control area
- The 1000 Series control announcing a logged problem in its SP-plus-code format
- A touch key worn or sticking on a unit in a damp bar environment
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Give the panel a full half-minute of attention without pressing anything. A steady SP with a flashing number is the settings screen; SP trading places with a code every second or two is the problem report, and that code is what to write down before it is cleared.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The code that alternates with SP is the entire diagnosis, and on an ice machine that code could be anything from a thermistor to a water level or drain problem — each a completely different repair.
- Clearing the display without recording what appeared alongside SP discards the only evidence of a problem that may not repeat while a technician is standing there.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
