What Model Number Indicator Mismatch Means
U-Line control boards are generic until a two-digit model code tells them what they are running — the clear-ice CLR1215 is 18 and the combination CO1224F is 19 on the published table, and current machines carry their own model list. Get it wrong and the board applies another product's freeze times, defrost schedule and sensor expectations to your ice machine, silently.
Common Causes of Model Number Indicator Mismatch
- A replacement control board left on its default model code
- The wrong two-digit code entered during an earlier repair
- A used board taken from another U-Line machine and still carrying the donor's code
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Track down the model and serial plate, usually inside the cabinet or behind the grille, and have the exact model string ready. On ice machines the distinction that matters most is what the machine is meant to produce, because a nugget machine and a clear-ice machine work on entirely different cycles.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A board set to the wrong ice format will run freeze and harvest timing that makes no sense for the machine it is in, which presents as poor ice quality and low production — and gets diagnosed as a sealed-system or water-quality problem instead.
- It can also produce error codes on sensor channels the machine does not have wired, sending a technician looking for parts that were never installed.
- Entering a code that looks close rather than the published one for your exact model just substitutes a different set of wrong parameters.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
