What E9 (Class Series) Means
E9 records Door 2 — the lower door or drawer — as open. It applies to the over-and-under and drawer-equipped beverage configurations, where the lower compartment is typically the one holding cases and bulk stock, and therefore the one most often loaded past the point where it will close cleanly.
Common Causes of E9 (Class Series)
- Lower compartment loaded to the back wall so the door or drawer cannot fully close
- Drawer glides binding under the weight of bulk stock over several years
- Lower reed switch or magnet displaced
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Empty the rear of the lower compartment completely, then close it and see whether the behavior changes. A case pushed to the back wall is the single most common reason a U-Line lower drawer stops short of its seal.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The lower compartment sits in the warmest part of the cabinet, so a lower door that never seals costs more in performance than an upper one would.
- U-Line drawer glides are adjusted as a matched pair, and correcting one side alone throws the drawer face out of line with the cabinetry above it.
- Persistent E9 entries with the drawer confirmed shut point at the switch rather than the drawer, and that is established with a meter rather than by eye.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
