What E5 (Class Series) Means
On the Class-series board E5 is Thermistor 1 shorted — the primary sensor the control regulates from. The cabinet is not simply missing information; it is being handed a wrong number and holding the compressor to it. On a beverage center the visible result is usually cans freezing or a cabinet that never gets properly cold, depending on which way the false reading runs.
Common Causes of E5 (Class Series)
- Condensation from constant door openings working into the sensor body or its connector
- Harness insulation rubbed through against a liner edge
- Sensor element degraded internally after long service
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Stand a thermometer on a middle shelf, away from the vent, and leave it a few hours. The difference between it and the display reading is the most useful single fact you can give a technician about this code.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A shorted primary sensor and a genuinely failing compressor produce the same complaint from outside the cabinet, and starting with the wrong one wastes a visit.
- Beverage centers cycle their doors constantly, so moisture that shorted one sensor has often reached neighbouring connectors — which is why U-Line pairs harness replacement with the sensor.
- Reaching the sensor means going behind interior liner panels, work that may affect parts warranty coverage on a unit still inside its term.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
