What E5 Means
E5 is the shorted-circuit counterpart to E1 — the first thermistor is reading a short rather than an open circuit, same practical result of an untrustworthy reading.
Common Causes of E5
- Thermistor 1 internally shorted
- Moisture intrusion affecting the sensor or wiring
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
A resistance test looking for an abnormally low reading rather than an open circuit.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- An ice machine's wet operating environment makes moisture-related shorts a real possibility, worth checking nearby wiring for the same exposure during the same repair.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
